Schubert - Klavierstucke D. 946, Nr. 1 in E-flat minor
Part of a set of three pieces written in 1828, they were probably
intended as a continuation of the series of impromptus Schubert had
begun in 1827 of Op. 90 and Op. 142. However, they did not appear in
print during Schubert's lifetime.
In this recording I have included the Andantino section, deleted from the autograph yet appearing in the first edition.
In spirit with Earth Hour activities, this piece was recorded in darkness using equipment with a minimal electrical footprint. It is a meditation on the planet on which we live the substance of its diverse landscape.
Playing the piano in complete darkness is an activity which I have found to be very fruitful in the creation of ideas and enhanced focus it can bring to sound with the diminished presence of visual stimuli. I have applied this activity to composed music as well.
